Thief steals trailer loan to church youth group

By Clint Parker

Weaverville – A thief or thieves stole a trailer loan to a church youth group for use in an upcoming parade.

The Weaverville United Methodist Church Youth Group was loaned a trailer to use to ride in the North Buncombe High School’s Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 11th. The trailer was parked under the bus awning in the church’s Fellowship Center Parking lot at 90 N. Main Street in downtown Weaverville.

The church security tapes show what appears to be a white Chevy Silverado, two-door extended cab, flatbed truck driving by the building at 3:02 am, 3:08 am and 3:09 am, 5:13 am and then pulling off with the trailer at 5:19 am. The police department said the trailer that was stolen was a 2005 black Built-Rite utility trailer. They are asking anyone with information to please call the Weaverville Police Department at 828.645.5700.

Fortunately, a member of the church has been able to locate another trailer for the group to use in the parade on Friday, so look for the float and the young people who will be passing out candy and information about the church parade-goers.
