Soccer Club Announces Launch Of Academy

Staff Report

Asheville – The Asheville City Soccer Club (ACSC) is announcing the formation of AC Academy, an elite youth developmental program. AC Academy will consist of one girls team and one boys team to support each of ACSC’s first teams and will feature a training-focused environment that is designed to supplement and complement the players’ experiences with their school and club teams.

In an effort to address the barriers to entry that exist in US Soccer’s pay-to-play system, AC Academy will be offered at no charge to youth or their families. Full funding for the program will be provided through a combination of club partnerships and the sale of alcohol wristbands at Asheville City first team home games at Memorial Stadium. Not only will this broaden access to high-level soccer programming locally, but it will also allow our supporters to contribute directly to the development of the next generation of homegrown talent.

A foundational component of AC Academy programming will be an immersive experience within the entire club. Asheville City first team staff and players will lead training sessions. Academy players will learn what it is like to play at the next level and what it takes to get there directly from those that are experiencing it. In addition, Academy players will be encouraged to be active in their communities, especially the local soccer community that has fostered their development, including ACSC’s Just Play Initiative.

AC Academy will be available to all through a tryout process with priority given to high-school aged youth residing in Western North Carolina. Programming will take place during the summer months overlapping with the first team regular seasons. Those interested in participating should register at The girl’s tryout will be held concurrently with the women’s open tryout on February 9th and the boy’s tryout will be held in April.
