NBMS – The North Buncombe Middle School Boys’ Basketball team has had an amazing season. They finished this season with a 12-5 overall record.
This season is bittersweet coming to an end with the boys winning over Owen Middle School boys’ basketball team who traveled to NBMS, ending with a score of (42- 29). Then going on to the 2nd round traveling to Enka Middle School in a hard fought game that ended in an overtime loss (38-43). The NBMS boys are true hard-working athletes and students.
In addition to a fine on-court record, this team has every 8th grader on the honor roll for grades and reaching high academics. This shows the true heart of the student-athletes to the community.
In the 1st round of the tournament, Owen traveled to NBMS and took on the Hawks. This night Hawks’ post player Gabe Banks and point guard Chad Clark were on fire with GB carrying 13 points and CC carrying 11 points. These two have shown to be a super powerhouse when working together.
Clark had five assists to help his teammates out. Banks had six rebounds to his credit in this game. NBMS’s very own Spencer Roane had five points and eight major rebounds in this huge step toward the next round of the playoffs. Reid Cook carried five points in this game and five rebounds also helping was Canaan Norton with three points and three assists for points.
Jeremiah Dodd the upcoming star is a 7th grader showing great potential for his 8th grade season. He came into the Owen game helping the 8th starters get a rest and scored two points. What a great season next year for NBMS in boys’ basketball that is to come.
The Enka game was a tough loss for the NBMS team, they tied the game up many times trying to get ahead. The NBMS boys outscored EMS in the 3rd period and tied up the game in the 4th period multiple times. Canaan Norton, Clark, and Parker Ingle hitting 3-pointers for their team matching Enka’s 3-pointers.
The leading scorer in this game was Roane a post of the NBMS team with nine points and seven rebounds. Roane had three great steals and helped on his foul shots. Banks the post of the NBMS had eight points and 14 rebounds and handling Enka’s team with five huge blocks.
Clark carried 8-points home and had four huge helping assist for his team. Canaan Norton a shooting guard had 6-points with nine rebounds. Parker Ingle a shooting guard had five points and two great assists to help his team.
This game was back and forth for the NBMS team with overtime being rough. The passing of the team and turnovers hurt in the overtime period. Even with a loss, the team finished as one the best teams of the county. Weaverville will be shining for years to come, there is a promise of great athletes coming up.
