Woodfin – Weeks after a couple of falls, Woodfin Mayor Jerry VeHaun is still recuperating from his surgery. Several weeks ago VeHaun fell on some wet grass while getting into his vehicle to get to his job as Buncombe County Emergency Services Director, tearing the muscles and tendons in his left knee, but breaking no bones.
A few days later, while on a walker, his walker slipped leading to a second fall, causing him to injure the other knee. The mayor has had surgery to repair both but has had to have his knees immobilized since the operation.
Currently, VeHaun is healing at Aston Park Health Care Center in Asheville. Asked how much longer he would be laid up recovering, Vehaun said, “Probably another month.” He said it would be at least two more weeks before he could put weight on the injuries. The mayor is in good spirits and looking forward to getting back on his feet and back to work.
