Local reception to benefit arts council

Weaverville – The Twisted Laurel restaurant in Weaverville is hosting a reception on Tuesday, August 27th for local artist Kathleen Olander who will be raffling off one of her paintings, Blue Ridge Arch (image at right) to benefit the Asheville Area Arts Council.

After a life-altering bike accident in 2009, Kathleen was unable to walk for over a year, and with the support of her community and husband, she healed and redefined her life. Her new path led her to move to North Carolina where she discovered the beauty of the Blue Ridge mountains. She began painting from the photographs she has taken riding while on the back of motorcycles throughout the Appalachian Mountains.
“My inspiration and focus are on creating art that reflects my passion for life. I want to share the joy and freedom I now have through my art work.”

This is the second art show that Twisted Laurel Weaverville has hosted in an effort to give local artists an additional venue to display and sell their work within the community. In lieu of taking any commission, the restaurant asks artists to consider making a contribution to a local nonprofit, and Kathleen chose the Asheville Area Arts Council.

Kathleen has donated one of her paintings to be raffled off at the reception; 100% of the proceeds will go to the Arts Council. Raffle tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the restaurant at any point leading up to the reception. Winners do not need to be present at the reception to win the painting.
