Local pregnancy group gets new name

Special to the Tribune

Madison County – A local resource center that helps women during pregnancy is getting a new name. Abiding Hope, Inc. (previously Mountain Area Pregnancy Services – MAPS), which reaches out as a pregnancy medical clinic to serve women and their families, recently took the new name.

The center started several years ago when the churches and pastors of the French Broad Baptist Association in Madison and Northern Buncombe County saw a need for services provided by a pregnancy center in the immediate area. They started planning meetings to make this happen. A place was found at 105 Chestnut Street in Mars Hill and it started offering services on August 15, 2014 as Mountain Area Pregnancy Services in affiliation with the Asheville MAPS office. Because of growth in recent years in number of clients, services, and finances, the center has become its own 501c3 organization, Abiding Hope, Inc. as of May 1st of this year.
Abiding Hope continues to serve and meet the needs of residents in Madison and Northern Buncombe Counties.
All the services at Abiding Hope are free and 100% confidential. Services offered include pregnancy testing, limited OB ultrasounds, counseling, a maternity and baby closet, prenatal and parenting classes, miscarriage and abortion support groups, support throughout the pregnancy, and referrals to medical services and community resources. Abiding Hope strives to offer judgment-free support and evidence-based education to empower individuals to make healthy choices for emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being regarding a pregnancy. The center is open on Mondays 2 pm – 6 pm and Tuesdays and Thursdays 10 am – 4 pm. Abiding Hope is devoted to loving and serving all clients before, during and after their pregnancy. Services are for anyone, regardless of age, race, religion, or sexual orientation.

If you would be interested in a tour, please call to set a time for you to come by. Volunteers are the backbone of the organization and if you would be interested in volunteering or being a client advocate, email or call to speak with someone today. If you or someone you know needs Abiding Hope services, please call to set up an appointment. Walk-ins are also always welcome!

Abiding Hope operates with the support of churches and individuals in the area. An annual “Walk for Life” is held to raise operating funds for the next year. The goal is to bring the community together to raise funds for this ministry and celebrate what God has been doing through Abiding Hope. Funds raised from this event are critical to the ongoing operations of Abiding Hope.

The annual “Walk for Life” will be held on Saturday, September 7 from 10 am to 11:30 am on the Madison High School Track. Registration will be from 9 am – 10 am. Bring the family and enjoy the inflatables, face painting, food, and a raffle as well as do the Walk for Life.
