Full-service beauty & tanning salon opened in Weaverville

Weaverville – The summer sun may be fading, but Beauty & the Sun Bum is a tropical-themed oasis open all year long. A step onto the salon’s ocean epoxy floors is evocative of waves crashing and curling over sand. Salon chairs sit atop the metallic, sandy-colored floor marbleizes and swirls into an ocean blue. Palm trees artwork and island décor decorate the store.

Owners David Scott and Dawn Payne opened the full-service beauty and tanning salon on July 1st on N Main St in Weaverville. The long-time Buncombe County residents dabbled in running small businesses out of their home before deciding to embark on their new venture.

“We had been interested in doing our own business, working for ourselves for years. And we wanted something that would be a great retirement opportunity,” said David Scott Payne. “A business that we could start and run but later could turn into something that could be running by itself so that we are not here, like we are now, seven days a week, all day.”

Beauty & the Sun Bum offers full-service bed and spray tanning, with “the best spray tan machine in Asheville, a VersaSpa,” says Payne. Annual and monthly membership packages are available, as well as per-session pricing. The beauty salon also provides massage therapy, hairstyling, and waxing. The Paynes hope to expand to nail care and are “looking for more stylists and a nail technician too. We are going to offer private suites as well for stylists, booth rental or a private room rental.”

David Scott Payne assured that the salon is vigorously sanitizing and enforcing COVID-19 regulations.
