Weaverville – Sunday afternoon (June 30) saw a free musical performance by Charles Harnish, Weaverville United Methodist Church’s music director. Harnish performed inside WUMC’s sanctuary.
Sunday’s concert was sponsored by the Steak n’ Shake on Bell Stroud Road and Peterson Insurance Group, Inc. on Main Street. Background and biographical information about Harnish were provided on the back of event programs.

According to the program, Harnish “was born and raised in Sarasota, Florida. He began taking piano lessons when he was five years old and has been playing piano and organ professionally for the past 15 years.”
Harnish graduated from Florida State University several years ago with a degree in piano performance. His first paid music gig was when he held the position of music director for a local church.
“As a recent transplant to Asheville, [Harnish] is the music director at Weaverville United Methodist Church. He also works at the Piano Lab Studios where he enjoys teaching students,” according to information obtained from the event’s program.

Harnish performed several songs on Sunday, including “Love Walked In,” by George Gershwin and William Bolcom’s “The Graceful Ghost Rag.” Ushers for the event, where a free will offering was taken, included Brenda Crawford, Jerry Weaver, Frank Meadow and John Meadows.

Those interested in catching another Harnish performance can find him live every Sunday morning at Weaverville
