Marshall – This past Father’s Day, a local church hosted a free concert featuring the Voices of Lee. Calvary Worship Center in Marshall hosted the world-renowned acapella group in concert on Sunday, June 16th at 6 pm. With music videos topping nearly 60 million views, the ensemble comes from Lee University in Cleveland, TN.
The group came to town after having recently performed on Broadway, at Carnegie Hall, and several of the country’s largest churches, in Germany, and at the A Cappella Music Awards where they took home several titles including Best Collegiate Group, Best Gospel Group and Group with Best Music Video.
Voices of Lee is unique to the area, though. We may be one of many stops on the group’s summer tour, but one Voices of Lee member calls this place home. North Buncombe alumni Coleman Smart has been in the ensemble for two years now and is finally getting to bring his two worlds together. “I’m beyond excited to be performing at home,” says Smart. “So many people have poured into me over the years and it has led me to where I am now. I’m eager to share our music with the community and I hope to see a lot of familiar and beloved faces.” Smart, who was a highly active student at North Buncombe, is entering his junior year at Lee University and is pursuing a degree in Music and Worship.
Smart is the son of Calvary Worship Center Pastor Rusty Smart and wife, Missy.
