Special to The Tribune
Weaverville – The Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Weaverville recently celebrated National Nursing Home Week 2019.
“Rocking Culture and Living Soulfully, during National Nursing Home Week 2019! Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation-Weaverville planned multiple fun activities every day during this special week that involved our staff, residents and families and promoted support of a happy, healthy mind, body, and soul,” said Amber Morgan, administrator at the center. “Each day was a hit not only with our precious residents but all of Team Weaverville!”
Morgan described the week for the Tribune. “From a luau on Hawaiian Day filled with Pina Coladas, fresh pineapple, grass skirts and bright floral leis, onward to boots, bandanas, and bodacious smiles after a satisfying Chili Cook-off on Western Day, to a rip-roaring Rockstar Day complete with Department Managers doing the Cupid Shuffle, amusing karaoke performances and rocking root beer floats, followed by pajama day with Looney Tunes all day in the dining room with your choice of yummy junky cold cereal to feel like a lazy Saturday morning when you were a kid, and finally the conclusion of an exciting week on Friday with Carnival Day.
“Carnival Day was chock full of fun with carnival games and prizes throughout the morning, fabulous clowns, a mime, a cotton candy striper, gospel singing in the afternoon, and no shortage of carnival eats as we made funnel cakes in our very own kitchen, hot buttery popcorn, snow cones and corndogs for all. It was amazing to watch our residents light up as they were entertained by staff all week. The added benefit to a wonderful week of full participation from floor staff to Administration was the bond it created among staff, residents and families enjoying the fun activities together,” she said.
The American HealthCare Association set the tone for this year’s week when they announced the theme for National Nursing Home Week 2019 as “Live Soulfully.”
“They challenged us in honor of this week to ask ourselves…What are you doing for yourself and others every day? What makes you happy? How are you contributing to your happiness and the happiness of others? In the world of skilled nursing facilities, we often feel as though the answers to these questions lie in the execution of our daily routines,” explained Morgan. “We give so much, often receiving little in return. With our efforts focused on achievement of happy minds and healthy souls, it was our goal during National Nursing Home week to allow the staff, family and residents joy to cross paths in a way that the commonality made Living Soulfully together a reality for all. We feel it was a superior week of success and we intend to continue our mindset throughout the year as we maintain our culture of fun and respect. From Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Weaverville, we wish that you may all experience compassion, love and soulful living at its best during this joyous spring season!”
