Ox Creek – The discharge of a firearm is not that strange in Buncombe County, but when that shooting results in a bullet hitting a home, well that’s another matter altogether. Over the holidays the Tribune was contacted by a concerned citizen who lives in the Ox Creek area.
“I wanted to make you aware of the fact that the Ox Creek Community, two weekends in a row, has had someone with a gun shooting…on both sides of Ox Creek Road near 148 Ox Creek,” said the resident who wished to remain anonymous.
Public Information Officer Natalie Bailey with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the shooting saying, “On December 25, 2018, Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call for service reporting damage to property at 148 Ox Creek Road in Weaverville. The reporting party…stated that at around 5:30 pm on that date he found a broken, double-paned window at the residence and subsequently located a bullet projectile on the floor. The reporting party told deputies that he heard what sounded like gun discharges the night before around the same time.” Bailey also stated that the investigation into this incident is active and ongoing.
Our anonymous tipster noted the following about the incidents of gunfire in their email:
From Sunday 12/24 6:29 pm – “Must have been 40 gunshots really close (not on other side of knob), lasted 15 minutes. Haven’t heard any sirens but as of now it’s been about 15 mins since last shot.”
From Saturday 12/29 6 pm – “Sounded like same gun – sounded like he was moving towards Reems Creek. A lot [of] gunfire for what seemed like 30 second[s] (I mean a lot) and it’s been silent for 15 mins or so. May just have moved out of range. No one from Sheriff’s dept. has called me.”
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 250-6670.
