Teen earns Eagle Scout badge

Mason Daniel Freelan of Weaverville achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on January 26 of this year at his Court of Honor ceremony held at GracePoint Woodland Hills Church. Mason is the son of Brian and Christina Freelan. He is a member of Troop No. 15 of the SoQua District.

To earn the rank of Eagle, a Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle Project. Mason has earned 26 merit badges and obtained his Eagle at the age of 14. This makes him one of the youngest in scouting to obtain the rank of Eagle.

For his project, Mason built a fire pit for the youth of GracePoint Woodland Hills Church as well as repainting the handrails of the education building.

Mason attends North Buncombe Middle School, where he is a member of the tennis team, FCCLA and Hawks for Christ.
