Series Of Workshops For Small Business Owners To Be Held

JOHNSON CITY — The Tennessee Small Business Development Center (TSBDC) at East Tennessee State University will hold a series of workshops throughout the month of February covering a wide range of topics from social media to government contracting, hiring and Bitcoin. 

On Thursday, Feb. 7, John Cannon, author and owner of Simply Data Centers, will present “Intro to Bitcoin and Cryptocurrencies” from 9-11 a.m. This free presentation is intended for those new to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies who want to understand the significance and importance of this new technology.

Valentina Escobar-Gonzalez, founder of Beyond Engagement – Social Media Solutions, will lead a “Facebook for 2019: New Tools for Business Owners” workshop on Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 10-11 a.m. Small business owners will discover the latest tools to facilitate daily management and engage with audiences on Facebook. The workshop is $25 per person and pre-registration is required.

The “Government Contracting” course on Tuesday, Feb. 19, is recommended for seasoned businesses interested in diversifying their strategy, businesses currently exploring or have recently acquired a government contract, or those with general interest in the topic. This free introductory course will be held from 9 a.m. to noon.

The TSBDC at ETSU is partnering with its affiliate office in Kingsport to offer a workshop titled “How to Hire the Right People the First Time,on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 8:30 -10 a.m. Dan Ragan, managing partner of Edwards Ragan & Associates, will teach attendees how to avoid hiring mistakes that cost time and money. The free workshop will be held at the Kingsport Chamber of Commerce, 400 Clinchfield Street, in the Eastman Boardroom.

All workshops except “How to Hire the Right People the First Time” will take place at the ETSU Innovation Laboratory, 2109 W. Market St.
