Buncombe County – In a press release just received this afternoon Kassi Day, Public Information/Communications Coordinator for Buncombe County said Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office is working with NC Department of Transportation and area fire departments on road closures. Buncombe Recreation is closing Lake Julian Park due to flooding at Ranger Station.
“Do not drive through high water or around barricades blocking off roads.
Buncombe County EMS advises the public if they spot a downed power line or tree, please call 911,” said Day. “Buncombe County River Parks are closing due to flooding, check Facebook for park information.”
Buncombe County EMS Director Jerry VeHaun told the Tribune that the Swannanoa River in Biltmore is out of its banks and was expected to rise about two more feet before it crests.
“I think the worst is over as far as the amount of rainfall,” said VeHaun. “I think it’s going to start tapering off some, but it’s going to be a while before the water starts back down.”
VeHaun also reminds residents “…when the water is coming across the road, don’t drive through it. And if you run across a tree that’s down or a powerline that’s down something like that call 911 and let us know.
