Afternoon storm leaves mark

A brief, violent afternoon storm slammed the North Buncombe area Thursday (June 26). Shortly before 2 pm, nickel-sized hail was spotted in Weaverville, along with gusty winds and heavy downpours. The storm cleared Weaverville within 20 minutes, but left behind some damage. Damage was most notabe along Dula Springs Road, where at least one tree was toppled by the high winds. An oak tree at 18 Dula Springs Road snapped at its base, with a portion of the tree landing on a nearby vehicle.
